Mathematics is the science of recognising, understanding, appreciating, creating and using patterns in day to day life, business, sciences, work life, technology.

Can mathematics be improved ? This question has been there since time immortal. Various education Commissions, Boards, researches have tried to answer this in their own ways.

In my long career, as a student myself, then as a teacher, proud father of two intelligent daughters, researcher, teacher educator, I have seen this question from different angles and with confidence I can say the answer is a YES.

I will not make any tall claim to have a developed magical system or method that can help all and sundry to improve mathematics. I have got deep insight into some structural changes which can give phenomenal improvement of mathematics results at a mass level, as a system as well. But, in personal capacity, surely I have developed a GIM (Guaranteed Improvement in Maths) program through which I can improve mathematics level of any student.

It is essentially a clinical approach. Using a battery of tests. Content based tests, testing memory level, language - maths interface, personal interview to understand past experiences with mathematics I understand the current status of the student. Many times, parental rebuke, teacher making public insults, repeated unequal comparisons also create a “block” that prevents anything to entre child's mind. 

Based on these findings, I make a line of treatment for next 3 months and share possible outcomes if the treatment is followed as given. ( Like many people do not take medicines, do not take the suggested exercise / die, many students do not follow the line of treatment).

Some of the visible outcomes in the first three months are - definite change in attitude toward mathematics as a subject, developing appreciation for mathematics as a subject related to life, enhanced ability to use mathematical concepts to organise their works, enhanced confidence in actual course related topics.

Even after following the line of treatment if the assured improvement is not found then depending upon parents’ wishes either treatment fee is refunded or the student is treated for additional time at no fee. 


Although, not run formally in this very name GIM, as a maths teacher I I have had good rate of success.

The role of experience In the behaviour school of psychology, who treat, observe, measure only the behavioural aspects, modification in behaviour is considered learning.
