Mathematics and Life 39 Becoming better teacher 2

 Becoming better teacher 2

Goal setting

While the Vision statement decides where you have to go and the Mission statement helps you to know how to go, Goal setting helps us in measuring how we are actually going ?

If we see a parallel in daily life

Vision - Where the journey ends. Say going Indore to Mumbai

Mission - How would we travel ? By bike, car, train, flight

Goals - Milestones you read on the way. Mumbai 342 Km etc

Let's get going, the video link will inspire you to work towards setting and achieving goals

Some of the goals I made as a maths teacher were -

  • Create new, unique worksheets - I have designed 350+ unique worksheets which I will be sharing from time to time and will also share the thought behind creating them.

  • Entertain my students through games and quizzes.

  • Talk to the not so good doing student and study her notebooks, go deeper on some learning issues. I was running remedial classes in Progressive Education School Indore

  • Read some articles on research methodology

  • Try hands on Canva, Pinart, paint, Google drawing to create posters

  • Design a maths summer camp

  • List the to do works and do them. Plan your work and work your plan

  • Design my day schedule by reducing the unplanned time to the minimum

  • Organise my desk

  • Organise my mail box, Google drive. One day I set whole day just to note down, put in folders various videos, audios, reports, lists I had just uploaded at different times.

  • Writing, posting, this blog daily at 8 am

You also start setting goals, writing goals, even if they remain under achieved or unachieved. Forming good habits is the most important thing. For example, if you wish to develop writing skills. It will help you a lot if you read this blog everyday and rewrite it in your own words. Someday you will add new angles, more details and lo you are a writer.

I made my first blog in 2012, now I am posting everyday after starting, trying, leaving, retrying, leaving again….but did not leave the Goal

My Journey as a Maths Teacher – Part 2

🧒 From Grade 3 to Guiding Future Teachers It gives me immense pleasure to be of some help to my younger mathematics teaching colleagues like Shruti Goel, Laly, Preeti Garg, Misha Nambiar, Rajendra Paliwal , and many others—across subjects and across schools. But things weren’t always this way. 📘 The Indore Phase – Simplicity, Struggle, and Silent Growth After leaving Mumbai in 1988, I served as a school teacher at Choithram School, Indore , till 1992. I even taught Grades 3 to 5 in a single session . Yet, the spirit was always high. I loved taking classes, creating activity sheets, and even wrote articles I mailed to U.S. education journals —long before emails were common. If there was one shortcoming I admit, it was in checking large stacks of answer books. I often rationalised, “I’m a creative person, so it’s okay.” In hindsight, it wasn’t—but the honesty helped me grow. 🔄 The Decade of Churn (1988–1997) It was a whirlwind decade. Imagine this combination: Ph.D. ...
