4 types of creativity

Background- With the advent of technology entering all spheres of human endeavour, Artificial Intelligence challenging the human intelligence, advanced versions of creativity like computational thinking, design thinking, quantum thinking are the tools relevant to keep pace.

The mandatory inclusion of problem solving skills like coding, critical thinking, collaborative learning right from the middle school stage has necessitated that all understand the basics of creativity.

Traditionally, the 4 types of creativity are 

  1. Person

  2. Product

  3. Process

  4. Press 

Creative person The characteristics of a creative child have been discussed at length in my recent blogpost linked below

We need to make an overall open, free, process based efforts to identify and retain the creative person.

Creative Product A product having unique features, using innovative ways of processing, solving a persistent problem through considerable reduction in process time, cost, man hours to produce it can be termed as a creative product.

Good governance policies, schemes, may also be called creative products, besides the regular meaning of the word product like 5 G handset, satellite phone, driverless cars, attending robots etc.

Creative process The long formal training a Bharat Natyam or a ballet dancer, creative artiste, spiritual leaders, undergo is a process of developing a creative perspective. Anyone accepted to be put in the process, ends being somewhere there that matters.

May not exactly be creative but all of IITs, IIMs, IMA, IIIT, AIIMS, IAS, IPS and the likes are reputed for the rigorous selection process and working processes they have. 

Creative Press It means to have a creative environment. An environment where there is no visible sign of a threat on expressing, there is no visible discrimination on age, sex, nationality, cast, religion, sexual orientation. Where there is a rule of written and or unwritten law and is the same for all. 

It could be two families in the same clan, two neighbours, two governments within the same country or even two countries sharing history, borders. The difference in environment, the love for rule of law, processes, is proportional to the visible difference in the progress on all parameters.
