Gudi or Gudhi Padwa marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year starting with Vikram Samwat 2078. The Hindu New Year begins in the month of Chaitra. This New Year was started by the great emperor Vikramaditya of Ujjaini. 


Although, the Sanatan or the Vedic traditions believe the age of the earth to be much more than the modern science believes, there is an overall, practical understanding to regard Vikram Samvat as the Hindu Samvat. 


Unlike the severely cold times of the Gregorian New Year (2021),  Gudhi Padwa comes in Chaitra when the season is becoming pleasant, days becoming longer and is very good for the crops. 


The festivities are celebrated differently in different parts of Bharat. Baisakhi is the most jovial festival in Punjab. In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, it is called Ugadi…….
